Northampton Town have been handed a fitness boost ahead of their key League Two trip to York City this weekend. Manager Chris Hogg confirmed a number of players are pushing for recalls after featuring in Tuesday's EFL Trophy defeat at Cambridge United.
Defender James Maxwell, who missed the last two games with a thigh issue, has returned to training and will be assessed before the match. Liam Shaw remains a long-term absentee, but Janoi Donacien is back in the squad after his own injury lay-off. Tyrese Fornah, who was not involved at Cambridge, is also hoping to be involved.
Chris Hogg said the recent period has acted as a positive reset for his returning players. "The last few weeks have almost been a mini pre-season for some of the boys who are coming back from injury," the manager stated. He added that the squad is healthy and the players' reaction in training has been excellent.
The Cobblers travel to the LNER Community Stadium sitting 22nd in League Two with just six points from seven games. They are on a run of three consecutive defeats, the latest a 2-1 loss at Cambridge United last Tuesday. A late call on Maxwell's availability will be made before Saturday's 3pm kick-off.
