Northampton Town have finalised a shareholding agreement with UK/Brazilian investment group Sports Alpha Capital, a key step in the club's ownership transition. The deal follows approvals from the Independent Football Regulator and the English Football League, with completion expected next week.

Chairman Kelvin Thomas confirmed the progress. "As we always said, we will keep supporters updated as we progress and we are pleased that we have finalised agreements and now move to closing," he said.

Joao Xavier, Founding Partner at Sports Alpha Capital, echoed the sentiment. "We are very happy to have reached formal agreements," Xavier stated. "Obviously obtaining IFR and EFL approvals was a big step, but this is also a very important milestone, and we look forward to closing next week."

The agreement marks a significant moment off the pitch as the club handles a challenging start to the League Two season. Northampton currently sit 22nd in the table with six points from seven games, a position they will be eager to improve. Their next match is away to 23rd-placed Port Vale on Saturday, a key fixture in the early-season battle.

Representatives from the investment group, including Pato, were present at the recent home victory over Newport County, witnessing the supporter enthusiasm firsthand. The necessary legal paperwork is now being circulated to all relevant parties to finalise the process. Hugh Strange, speaking on behalf of the investors, also welcomed the agreement's finalisation.
