Northampton Town Football Club is launching a new health initiative for local men at its Sixfields Stadium home. The club's community trust will run the free 'Chances for Change' programme on Thursday evenings from 24 September to 17 December.

Akshay Mistry, the health and wellbeing officer at the trust, said the sessions are designed to provide an accessible and supportive environment. "Chances for Change is about creating an inclusive and encouraging space where people can move at their own pace, learn practical skills and feel supported by others," Mistry said.

The 12-week course combines physical activity with health education and is aimed at men aged 30 to 70 with a body mass index of 27.5 or above. It is an updated version of the previous Fit Cobblers scheme, tailored for those who might find conventional gyms or exercise classes intimidating.

Mistry explained the goal is to equip participants with the tools for lasting health improvements. The initiative launches as the first team seeks to improve its own form, having slipped to 22nd in the League Two standings with six points from seven games. Their next challenge is a trip to face 23rd-placed Port Vale this Saturday, following a run of two consecutive defeats.

The community trust hopes the programme will become a regular fixture, supporting wellbeing in Northampton beyond the final whistle.

The community trust confirmed the programme is an 'updated and rebranded' version of the previous Fit Cobblers scheme. The launch comes as the team, 22nd in League Two, prepares for its next fixture away to Port Vale on 26 September.
