Neil Harris has previewed Northampton Town's upcoming EFL Trophy group stage match away to Cambridge United this Tuesday. The Cobblers travel to Abbey Stadium looking to bounce back from a poor start in the competition and a difficult run in League Two, where they sit 22nd with just six points from seven games.
Northampton's recent results show a clear need for improvement. They have lost their last two league games, most recently a 1-0 home defeat to Rotherham on 19 September, and have taken only one win from their last five outings. In the EFL Trophy, they lost their opening group game and are yet to score, having conceded three. Cambridge United, in contrast, began their Trophy campaign with a 4-1 win over Gillingham and are unbeaten in three League One matches.
The match features two of the division's leading scorers. Cambridge's Ben Knight has netted 11 times this season, while Northampton will rely on Tom Eaves, their top scorer with eight goals. Dean Campbell has been the chief creator for the Cobblers, providing five assists so far. Harris will hope his attacking duo can fire against a Cambridge defence that has conceded just once in the Trophy this term.
With a key league game against sixth-placed York City looming next weekend, Harris will be keen to use this Trophy fixture to build some positive momentum. The squad travels to York on 10 October.
