Northampton Town’s former loan striker Tyreece Simpson has signed for League Two side Port Vale on a one-year deal after leaving Stevenage. The 24-year-old St Kitts and Nevis international, who spent time at Sixfields during a loan spell, joins the Valiants after his contract expired at the end of last season. Simpson missed all of the 2025-26 campaign due to a ruptured Achilles but will now look to rebuild his career in League Two.

What happened?

Simpson, an Ipswich Town academy product, has had permanent spells with Huddersfield Town and Stevenage, as well as loan stints at Swindon Town, Northampton Town, and Colchester United. His time at Sixfields came during the 2022-23 season, where he made a handful of appearances. After being released by Stevenage, he has now dropped down a division to join Port Vale, who were relegated from League One last season.

Why it matters for Northampton Town

While Simpson is no longer a Northampton Town player, his move to Port Vale is of interest to Cobblers fans who remember his contributions during his loan spell. The club finished last season in 24th place in League One, with 35 points from 42 games, scoring 35 goals and conceding 62. With a goal difference of -27, they ended the season 58 points behind leaders Lincoln. Simpson’s departure from Stevenage means Northampton Town will not face him in League One next season, though he could appear against them if Port Vale face the Cobblers in cup competitions.

What comes next?

Simpson will now focus on regaining full fitness and making an impact at Port Vale. The Valiants have been busy in the transfer market, bringing in eight new signings this summer. For Northampton Town, the focus will be on rebuilding ahead of the new League One campaign, with the club looking to improve on their recent form, which saw them lose their last five games of the 2025-26 season.
