Northampton Town has announced a one-off change to its matchday kit following a 'fantastic gesture' by its usual shirt sponsor, the University of Northampton. The university has 'donated' its space on the club's shirt to the Northampton Town Community Trust for Saturday's home match against Burton Albion. This break in the university's 13-year continuous sponsorship of the shirts marks the 25th anniversary of the community trust. James Whiting, the club's chief executive, stated that the day would pay tribute to some of the fantastic work done by the trust. The Northampton Town Community Trust, led by CEO Phill Smith, continues to help thousands of people across Northamptonshire in various ways. Supporters will have the opportunity to bid for the special match-worn shirts after the game, with profits going to the trust. The match against Burton Albion is Northampton's first since sacking manager Kevin Nolan after winning only one of their previous 16 league games. The community day fixture is expected to be a significant event for the club and its supporters. The University of Northampton's gesture has been welcomed by the club and the community trust. The special match shirts will be a unique souvenir for supporters and a valuable fundraising opportunity for the trust. The club is looking forward to welcoming participants from the community trust to the game and using the event to raise funds and awareness for the trust's work.
