Northampton Town have sacked Kevin Nolan with 10 games left to play in the League One season. The Cobblers are currently in the relegation zone, sitting above rock-bottom Port Vale but just below Leyton Orient and Rotherham. Northampton have taken action to try and steer clear of relegation, removing Nolan from his spot in the dugout. He has been succeeded by the club's technical director Colin Calderwood, who will be assisted by Ian Sampson. Northampton's chairman Kelvin Thomas said the decision was made due to the club's recent poor performances and results. Thomas stated that the club is grateful to Nolan for his hard work, but a change was needed. Northampton are just three points adrift of safety and are level on points with Rotherham. Calderwood will be in charge of the club this weekend, when Northampton will host Burton Albion at Sixfields. The Cobblers will then visit Stockport County and Mansfield Town before doing battle with Yorkshire clubs Barnsley and Bradford City. Northampton Town's fans will be hoping that the change in management will bring about an upturn in fortunes. The club's next few games will be crucial in determining their League One status. And with Calderwood at the helm, Northampton will be looking to pick up as many points as possible. But the task ahead will not be easy, with several other teams also fighting to avoid relegation. So Northampton Town will need to be at their best if they are to survive in League One.
