Northampton Town have released goalkeeper Lee Burge after four years at the club. The 33-year-old has made 113 appearances for the Cobblers since joining from Sunderland in 2022. His contract expires this summer and it was announced last month that Burge had been offered a new deal. However, following Chris Hogg's appointment as head coach on 18 May, the club have subsequently decided to release him. "We have decided to go in a different direction in the goalkeeping position and so we have parted company with Lee," Hogg told the Cobblers' website. Lee spent four seasons at the club and played over a hundred games, winning a promotion in that time, and it is important that contribution is recognised. The decision to release Burge comes as a surprise, given his experience and success with the club. However, the Cobblers will be looking to bring in a new goalkeeper to replace him. The search for a new goalkeeper will begin immediately, with the club looking to find a suitable replacement for Burge. The Cobblers will be hoping to find a goalkeeper who can replicate Burge's success and help the team achieve their goals.
