Northampton Town's League One rivals, Brackley Town, have strengthened their squad with the signing of a 'very quick' and 'exciting' forward, Kian Pennant. The 22-year-old winger has been snapped up as a free agent after his release from Leicester City. Pennant, who can play on either side or as a centre-forward, has been on trial elsewhere and has enjoyed two spells in the National League last season, at Gateshead and Woking. He played 10 times apiece for the two clubs, scoring two goals across a total of 928 minutes in the English fifth tier. Now dropping down a division, Pennant is keen to follow up his breakthrough senior season with increased game time with the ambitious Brackley. There's certainly promise there, as Pennant scored 26 goals and recorded seven assists in 120 appearances for Leicester's under-21 and under-18 teams. Speaking after completing his move to Brackley, Pennant said: 'I'd describe myself as an energetic and direct wide player who's comfortable on either flank. I want to create chances, contribute goals and assists, and help the team climb the table.' Whing, who shares Pennant's optimism for the season ahead, added: 'Kian is another young exciting prospect who has agreed to join us. Having a great grounding at Leicester City and representing England as well, Kian is now adjusting to men's football. Having previously played in the National League and gaining experience, I'm sure we'll be able to get the best out of another exciting prospect.' Whing's 12th signing of the summer, Pennant will officially become a Brackley player when the transfer is approved by both the National League and the Football Association. Pennant could make his competitive debut for the Saints in the highly anticipated 2026/27 season opener, away at Telford United on Saturday, August 8. League standing (final 2025 table -- new season not yet under way): 24th in League One, 35 pts, 9W-8D-29L from 46 games, recent form LLLLL.
