Northampton Town have signed 32-year-old midfielder Lee Evans on a one-year contract, adding a seasoned campaigner to the Cobblers’ midfield. Evans began his career at hometown club Newport County before moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he was part of the 2013-14 League One title-winning squad and made 26 league appearances that season. He later helped Wigan Athletic, Ipswich Town and Portsmouth each secure promotion to the Championship, before finishing his playing career with Bradford City, who were defeated by Bolton in the League One play-off semi-finals last season. Manager Chris Hogg praised Evans as “a leader on and off the field and a real stabilising influence in the dressing room.”
In a second signing, Northampton secured former MK Dons midfielder Connor Lemonheigh-Evans on an initial two-year deal. The 29-year-old was released by MK Dons after their promotion from League Two. Prior to joining the Dons, Lemonheigh-Evans made 59 appearances over two seasons and was part of Stockport County’s promotion to League One in 2023-24. He began his career at Bristol City and also won promotion to the National League with Torquay United in 2019. Chris Hogg noted that Lemonheigh-Evans “knows the level really well and has a lot of experience of being successful at this level… He knows what it takes and that can be very important.”
The squad was further reshaped by the departure of left-back Nesta Guinness-Walker, who has joined Aberdeen on a two-year contract. The 26-year-old made 43 appearances for Northampton last season, 34 of them starts, as the Cobblers finished bottom of League One. Aberdeen manager Stephen Robinson highlighted Guinness-Walker’s pace, energy and experience, noting he will need a few weeks to adapt to the club’s style. Guinness-Walker, a product of the Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur youth systems, was named Northampton’s player of the year last season.
These moves come as Northampton prepare for the 2026-27 League Two campaign, with the club looking to build on the experience of Evans and Lemonheigh-Evans while integrating new talents into the squad. The Cobblers will aim to use the added depth and leadership to push for promotion in the coming season.
