Northampton Town will face Swindon Town in their opening match of the League Two season. The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, with fans able to tune in using Sky Sports +. The match is one of 25 games across the Championship, League One, and League Two being broadcast live on Sky Sports during the usual TV blackout. The blackout is not in effect this weekend because the Premier League season has not yet started. Northampton Town are on a worrying run of 12 consecutive defeats and have managed just one league win in 2026, a victory over AFC Wimbledon in February. Things have changed this summer, with Liam Manning's former assistant manager Chris Hogg appointed by Swindon legend Colin Calderwood as their new head coach. Both teams lost against higher-level opposition in the Carabao Cup last weekend, with The Cobblers losing 1-0 away at Leicester City. Swindon will be hoping to make a strong start to the season and put last year’s disappointments behind them. Ian Holloway said of their opening match of the League Two season: "We had the worst run of results that we've had. "So we've got to try and start afresh, and that's what everything is now. It's new. It's brand new. Brand spanking new. "So the challenge that their manager's got is to turn that around and make sure that they believe they can win, but they are on a level that's below where they were." Northampton Town finished last season with just one win in their final seven games, narrowly missing out on the play-offs despite spending eight months in the top seven. League standing (final 2025 table -- new season not yet under way): 24th in League One, 35 pts, 9W-8D-29L from 46 games, recent form LLLLL. Goals this season: 39 scored, 74 conceded (-35 goal difference). Title race: 68 points behind leaders Lincoln. The 3 pm blackout will return once the Premier League resumes on the weekend of August 22-23.
