Northampton Town Football Club has secured the future of its vital partnership with the University of Northampton, extending the collaboration for a further four years until 2030. The relationship, first established in 2013, has grown into a cornerstone of the club's community and operational work. This extension comes as the Cobblers sit 14th in the League Two standings with 6 points from their opening five matches, their record reading one win, three draws, and one loss.

Over the last 13 years, hundreds of University of Northampton students have gained direct experience through the club. In the 2025/26 season alone, 65 students worked with Northampton Town across various departments. Their contributions have been wide-ranging and impactful. Fashion students have designed the club's third kit, while business analytics student Edna helped develop strategies to increase matchday footfall. Sports science students have provided specialist skills, testing player fitness through placements and volunteer work.

The pathway from classroom to career is clear. Former students Ash Adebayo and Charlotte Burge now hold key roles at Sixfields as the first team's Strength and Conditioning Coach and Marketing & Partnerships Activations Manager, respectively. Jamie Duncan, who started as the club's Media Assistant, has progressed to become Media & Communications Manager at Cheltenham Town. Dozens of other graduates have secured full-time roles within the professional football industry, including at Premier League clubs.

The English Football League estimated the social value generated by the partnership at close to £7 million for the 2024/25 season. A significant part of this comes from community initiatives, such as the club providing kit free of charge to players in girls, disability, and further education programmes. Dozens of students have also taken part in dedicated Takeover Days, gaining hands-on event management experience.

To mark 13 years of collaboration, the club commissioned a commemorative film produced by four first and second-year students from the university's Creative Film, Television and Digital Media Production programme. The team, led by editor Bernadeth Conceja with camera operators Liz Andrews and Sam Birch and creative director Dylan Barras, captured the essence of the partnership. University Vice Chancellor Becky Bradshaw said the collaboration has become a powerful example of how education and sport can come together to inspire ambition, unlock potential and strengthen communities.

Club Chairman Kelvin Thomas and Chief Executive James Whiting both praised the partnership's impact and outlined plans to build on its success. The extension ensures a continued pipeline of talent and community projects for the next four years. The Cobblers have scored and conceded three goals this season, leaving them with a zero goal difference as they look to climb the table from six points behind leaders Bristol Rovers.

The club also confirmed a continuing principal partnership with Silverstone Leasing for the 2026/27 season. Their name will feature on a pitch side board at Sixfields and in matchday programmes, with the team engaging fans through exclusive offers. Commercial Director James Corrigan stated the club is delighted to commit to a third year with Silverstone Leasing, further strengthening a fantastic partnership. Managing director Scott Norville pledged his company's backing as Northampton Town aims to move forward this season.
